Steel detailing and shop drawings

Shop drawings are built from the approved contract documents, and questions go back to the GC and design team as RFIs before anything is fabricated. We self-perform much of our own detailing and use a Trimble X7 laser scanner to measure existing conditions, so retrofit and tenant-improvement steel is drawn to what is actually on site.

On larger jobs we work with established detailing partners and hold their drawings to the same review standard as our own.

We pay attention to the details while they are on paper, so there are fewer surprises on site.

3D BIM modeling

We use 3D models through estimating and submittals to check quantities, connections and clearances, and to coordinate with other trades.

Design gaps get flagged on the model, where they cost an RFI, rather than on site, where they cost a crane day.

Fabrication

Our Marana shop fabricates everything from small tenant-improvement packages to full commercial structural steel packages. Fitters and welders work from approved shop drawings, and a quality control program follows each piece from cut list to load-out.

Finished steel is loaded and delivered on our own trucks, so the handover point is the job site rather than a freight yard.

Who we build for, and what we don’t do

Industrial and food distribution · bank branches · retail and quick-service restaurants · hotels and hospitality · colleges and schools · government tenant improvements · municipal facilities and parks · self-storage · multi-family developments. See completed projects.

Supporting capabilities: stairs, railings and guards · canopies · embeds and anchor bolts · equipment and RTU supports · commercial gates and fencing · shop detailing and coordination · field erection.

Icon Steel is a commercial and industrial steel subcontractor. We don’t take on residential fabrication, consumer repair or general welding work. If the scope is commercial or industrial, from a single RTU frame to a full structural package, send it to us.

Erection

Icon Steel erects structural steel and miscellaneous metals throughout Arizona with its own crews, working from approved erection drawings and to the GC’s site logistics and schedule. Our ironworkers are experienced on commercial, multi-family, hospitality and industrial projects.

Every crew works under a written safety program in compliance with OSHA 1926 Subpart R, with daily job-site safety briefings and OSHA-certified supervision.
